It’s been a pretty perfect day.

Had a definite dose of much needed New York magic.

In the daily grind of noise, smog and smelly people, it can be easy to forget why we choose to live here.

And then this happens:

Shane offers to stay home with the baby while I go into the city. Sweet lord thank you! G is in that phase of mobility with no ability to reason. Basically a toddling, smiling, smashing disaster. It’s pretty terrifying. And adorable.

I head over to Strand to pick up Steven Heller and Lita Talarico’s Graphic: Inside the Sketchbooks of the World’s Great Graphic Designers, which I had decided to treat myself with for a bit of New Year’s inspiration. It’s on a top shelf so I climb up the conveniently placed ladder to grab it. I then realize I’m in a precarious situation of holding a giant book and attempting to climb down a wobbly ladder (seriously Strand, that thing is a law suit waiting to happen) so I ask the gentleman in the aisle with me to hold the book while I descend.

It’s Steven Heller.

IT’S STEVEN HELLER.

He laughed when he looked at the cover and said, “Good book.”

MMMHMM.

I know it’s not a huge celebrity sighting or anything, but as someone who has just recently decided to go full steam ahead in becoming a graphic designer it felt like a pretty big “You Go Girl!” from the universe.
