I recently started giving my giant baby solid foods. I wanted to be cool and try the whole baby led weaning thing and let George “experience” food instead of giving him purees, but I nearly had a heart attack every time he put whole pieces of avocado or banana in his mouth. So old school baby food it is!

Step 1: Wash, peel and cut up a bag of sweet potatoes. I used 6.

Step 2: Steam in a covered pot until very very tender. Around 30 minutes stirring occasionally.

Step 3: Puree until smooth. I added around 6 ladle-fulls of the water I had steamed the potatoes with to make the texture thinner and to keep some of the nutrients lost from the steaming process.

Step 4: Spoon the puree into a clean ice cube tray and freeze overnight.

Step 5: Pop out the sweet potato cubes and store in a freezer bag ready to use in a perfect portion size.

Step 6: Feed it to your scary baby.

This method is so much cheaper than commercial baby food and I know that George isn’t eating ground up rats that fell into the peaches vat at the baby food factory. Because that is what you think about once you have a baby. All the time. About everything.
